2026 Newcomer Welcome Dinner

Every year, the Carderock Springs Citizens’ Association hosts a dinner to welcome new neighbors. Please save the date, Saturday, September 26, for this wonderful event! If you have a new neighbor, please share this invitation! RSVP at this link!

The dinner will be held at the Carderock Springs Swim and Tennis Club, at 8200 Hamilton Spring Court, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. (outside at the pavilion or in the social hall, depending on the weather). Dinner will be catered, offering both meat (chicken) and vegetarian options. Dessert is potluck. Established residents please plan to bring a dessert to share (homemade or store bought).

A big event like this requires a lot of work, so if you are able, the events committee appreciates the assistance of volunteers before, during and after the dinner. Please use this link to sign up. We also offer SSL hours for student helpers.

Finally, we acknowledge and apologize that this event conflicts with the first full day of the Sukkot holiday.

Payment information: Newcomers (those who moved in after September 27, 2025) will receive a complimentary dinner from the Citizens' Association. Seasoned Carderockers who attend and pay ahead of time are charged $15 for ages 13+ and $5 per child aged 6-12. At the door, the costs are $25 for ages 13+ and $10 per child aged 6-12. Online payment is preferred via Venmo (@CarderockSpringsCA) or PayPal (www.paypal.me/carderock). Please include your first and last name and the subject "Welcome Dinner" with your payment. Check payments are also accepted; mail them to:

Halloween House Decorating Contest

HALLOWEEN HOUSE DECORATING CONTEST WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Thank you to all the residents who participated, especially those who decorated their yards for the delight of the community. Every single house is well worth the visit! (Map is below.)

The WINNERS of the 2025 contest are:

PEOPLE’S CHOICE, 8117 Hamilton Spring Road, “Disco ‘Til You Die”. This house was the favorite in the community vote.

Our judge’s panel included community members from all age groups and new and established residents. They rated each house on artistic quality, effort and scale, using a structured rubric. Thank you judges!

The top panel-scoring houses, apart from the People’s Choice awardee, were:

BEST HALLOWEEN DISPLAY, 8217 Hamilton Spring Ct. “Carnevil”

BEST TRADITIONAL FALL DISPLAY, 8215 Lilly Stone Dr “Fall is in the air.”

SCARIEST, 8109 Lilly Stone Drive

BEST CREATIVE USE OF RECYCLED MATERIAL

Our Environmental Chair, Francisco Gonzalez, viewed all the houses in the neighborhood.

This award goes to a household that did not formally enter the contest, 8416 Magruder Mill Ct, for its creative use of clothes, wood, pumpkin, and hay. Special Mention goes to 8000 Park Overlook Drive, which also did not formally enter the contest, for its creative use of plywood, paint and metal posts.

Happy Trick or Treating!

2025 Annual Newcomer Welcome Dinner

The 2025 CSCA Newcomer Welcome Dinner was held on Sunday, September 28th. The event was attended by 127 people, including about 9 newcomer households. The Events Committee has enormous gratitude for all the neighbors who made this year’s dinner so special.

MVPs:

1-The newcomers, who we can already tell are going to make great new friends and neighbors. It was wonderful to get to know them.

2-Everyone who posted and retrieved yard signs, helped set up, staffed the registration table and the bar, decorated, introduced newcomer families, and cleaned up, as well as Larry Ondrejko and Mark Brueggenjohann for heavy lifting and tech. Our two SSL students were great. It was a huge undertaking and so many people stepped up.

3-Cava Catering, which came through for us with one day’s notice.

4-Rob Gorman as emcee was hilarious and good-natured, as always. In addition to stand-up, he can add tablecloth washing to his CV!

5-The Carderock Village Gardening Interest Group, whose members came through amazingly and beautifully to brighten our tables with local greenery. (See https://www.carderocksprings.net/carderock-village-you-already-belong)

6-All the bakers and buyers who brought wonderful desserts

7-CSCA President Maja Husar and Treasurer Deborah Tanno who contributed both behind the scenes and at the event

8-Carderock residents who make us feel so lucky and proud every day to live here.
